Bachelor’s Degree Requirements:
- Minimum 126-128 Credit Hours
- Writing Intensive Course
- Minimum Cumulative G.P.A.: 2.00
- 30 Credit Hours of Residency Courses
- 9 Credits of Upper-Level Major Residency Courses
- Minimum G.P.A. in the Major: 2.00
- Minimum Grade of “C-” or better in 30 upper-level credits as well as all upper-level courses required in the major
Medical Laboratory Technology Admissions Requirements:
Applicants who do not meet these requirements may qualify for admissions by completing comparable course work at UMA and will be admitted into the Pre-MLT track. Enrollment in the Biology MLT 2+2 does not guarantee admissions to the MLT courses.
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- High School Biology with lab or BIO 110 must be passed with a “C-” or higher
- High School Chemistry with Lab or CHY 100 must be passed with a “C-” or higher
- ENG 100 or course waiver
- 2.00 Grade Point Average (GPA) or higher
MLT Major Requirements (62 Credit Hours):
All BIO, CHY, and MLT Courses Must Be Passed with a Grade of C+ or Higher
Remaining UMA MLT Requirements:
To complete the AS in MLT from UMA prior to completing the Biology degree, students must also complete the following requirements as listed under the “other program requirements” section and meet requirements in the BA Biology degree:
- 100-level communications elective
- ENG 101 - College Writing 3 CR
- one Writing Intensive course (ENG 102W recommended)
- one Fine Arts or Humanities Elective (satisfied with ENG 102W )
- One Social Science elective (see options below)
Remaining Biology Program Major Requirements (34 Credit Hours):
Complete one of the following courses (4):
Other Program Requirements (30-32 Credit Hours):
Complete any 100-level Communications course (3)
Complete one of the following Computer Information Systems courses (3):
Complete one of the following Fine Arts electives (3):
Complete two of the following Social Science electives (6):
From two different disciplines:
- ANT 1xx any 100-level Anthropology course
- ECO 1xx any 100-level Economics course
- ECO 201 - Macroeconomics 3 CR
- ECO 202 - Microeconomics 3 CR
- JUS 1xx any 100-level Justice Studies course
- POS 1xx any 100-level Political Science course
- PSY 1xx any 100-level Psychology course
- SOC 1xx any 100-level Sociology course
- SSC 1xx any 100-level Social Science course
Advising Notes:
- To complete the ASMLT degree prior to completing the BABIO degree, students must complete the communications requirement, ENG 101 , one social science elective, a fine arts or humanities elective and a writing intensive elective (ENG 102W recommended).
- Students who are not admitted to the MLT program must complete all requirements for the BA in Biology degree to complete the program.
