Admission Prerequisites:

Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution in a different discipline
Minimum Cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5
At least 24 credit hours in the content certification area being sought: English, social studies, physical science, life science, social studies, or mathematics.
Must declare a concentration in the area in which the student has at least the 24 credit hours:
- English
- Social Studies
- Physical Science
- Life Science
- Mathematics

Program Requirements:

All classes passed with at least a B-
Candidacy application required after completing EDU 100 , EDU 200W or EDU 335 , EDU 215 , EDU 251 , EDU 366W , EDU 387 .
Application required for residency year (advanced field placement and student teaching)

EDU 200W - Diversity, Poverty, and Cultural Competence 3 CR

EDU 335 - Serving Multilingual Learners 3 CR
EDU 215 - Early Field Experience 3 CR
EDU 251 - The Teaching Process 3 CR
EDU 380 - Digital Literacy and Technology in Schools 3 CR
EDU 387 - Teaching the Exceptional Child in the Regular Classroom 3 CR
EDU 390W - Secondary Methods of Teaching 3 CR
EDU 385W - Literacy across the content areas (6-12) 3 CR
Complete one of the following courses (3):
EDU 345W - Child Development 3 CR Or
EDU 401W - Educational Psychology 3 CR

PSY 401W - Educational Psychology 3 CR

To receive a Post Baccalaureate degree at UMA, students must take 30 credit hours beyond their bachelor’s degree. Students who have taken or received credit for more than 5 of the classes listed above in their bachelor’s degree will need to take additional elective courses.
