Delivery Area: Statewide - BS Completion

Nursing Admissions Requirements:

Associate Degree - in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution

Active RN License (Must be completed before the second semester in the program)

Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 from all regionally accredited institution attended

There are two types of transfer students that could be influenced by this degree, and the requirements are subtly different:

  • If the student does not have a prior bachelors degree, the transfer student must complete UMA’s General Education requirements as specified.  Some courses taken at a prior institution may transfer for those requirements.
  • If a student does have a prior bachelors, then the general education requirements are waived.  There is, however, mandatory content that otherwise satisfies General Education requirements that is still required.

A student with an Associate Degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institute and an Active RN license is granted 49 credits of transfer, three of which constituting HUS 134.  If other specified coursework has been completed in the process of receiving the AD-N (or other degree), those are in addition to this number.  For example, a student taking Anatomy and Physiology during their AD-N (or other degree) would receive an additional four credits in line-item transfer.

Bachelor’s Degree Requirements:

  • Minimum Cumulative G.P.A.: 2.50

General Education:

It is the intention of the University of Maine at Augusta that every degree graduate will be prepared to function in our society as an effective and informed citizen.  To this end, the faculty has designed a set of minimum expectations that students are expected to satisfy.  The aspirations are defined by core skills, competencies, and abilities as well as knowledge based learning experiences that are the grounds for the General Education Requirements.  To learn more, visit  www.uma.edu/academics/general-education/

Advising Notes:

  • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • Students admitted to the RN-BSN Program may be given credit for comparable baccalaureate level nursing courses that have been completed within the previous 10 years. For course work completed over 10 years, students may elect to request a course substitution/waiver or complete a portfolio assessment per UMA guidelines.
