Admissions Criteria:
- Meet teacher education admission criteria: Accuplacer scores, SAT scores, or prior courses consistent with UMA’s policy for placement into ENG 101 and MAT 100
- Complete and submit Intent to Declare Minor or Certificate of Study
- Schedule meeting with Coordinator of Teacher Education
Minor Requirements (45-47 credit hours):

Pre-candidacy phase (14-16 credits)
Other pre-candidacy courses:
Complete one of the following courses (1-3):
Additional Requirements:
- Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (taken anytime in pre-candidacy phase)
- Criminal History Record Check
- GPA of 2.5 overall & 2.5 in education courses
- Complete application to candidacy
Candidacy phase (19 credits)
Complete one of the following courses (3):
Additional Requirements:
- Praxis II Content Assessment (taken anytime in candidacy phase)
- GPA of 2.5 overall and 3.0 in education courses
- Complete application for student teaching
Additional Licensure Requirements:
At least 30-32 credit hours in the content area Content Area Recommendations: English Language Arts (30 credits):
Life Science (31 credits)
Physical Science (32 credits)
Social Studies (30 credits)
Complete one of the following courses (3):
Advising Notes:
- A minimum of 25% of the credits required for a minor needs to be earned at UMA for it to be awarded.
- A student may be awarded any minor as long as no more than six credits of the minor can be used to fulfill the requirements of the student’s major or concentration.
