Bachelor’s Degree Requirements:

• Minimum 120 Credit Hours
• Writing Intensive Course
• Minimum Cumulative G.P.A.: 2.0
• 30 Credit Hours of Upper-Level (300-400) Course Work
• 30 Credit Hours of Residency Courses
• 9 Credits of Upper-Level Major Residency Courses
• Minimum G.P.A. in the Major: 2.0 (All ILS courses must be passed with a C (2.0) or higher.) This means that an ILS student earning a grade of C- or lower in an ILS class must re-take that course.

All ILS courses must be passed with a C (2.0) or higher.

• ILS 100 - Introduction to Library and Library Careers 3 CR
• ILS 101 - Foundations of Information & Library Science 3 CR
• ILS 109 - Information Literacy 1 CR
• ILS 150 - Introduction to Reference Services and Materials 3 CR
• ILS 175 - Cataloging and Technical Processes 3 CR
• ILS 225 - Introduction to Library Information Technologies 3 CR
• ILS 250 - Collection Development 3 CR
• ILS 325 - Digital Library Technology and Services 3 CR
• ILS 350 - Advanced Librarianship 3 CR
• ILS 365 - Web Page Design 3 CR
• ILS 442 - Library Management 3 CR
• ILS 499 - Senior Capstone Internship or Advanced Research 6 CR (120 hours onsite)
• CIS 101 - Introduction to Computer Science 3 CR or higher level CIS course
• BUA 223 - Principles of Management 3 CR
• Complete any Education course 3 CR

General Education Requirements (34 Credit Hours):

This section is waived for those who hold a prior bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution.

• Complete any 100-level Communications course 3 CR
• ENG 101 - College Writing 3 CR
• ENG 102W - Introduction to Literature 3 CR
• MAT 100 - Mathematics and Its Applications 3 CR or higher 100-level math course
• Complete any 100-level laboratory science course 4 CR 
• CIS 100 - Introduction to Computer Applications 3 CR

Complete one of the following Fine Arts electives (3):

General Electives (25 Credit Hours):

Note: Students must complete 30 credits of upper-level (300-400) course work. If not taken as part of the program major requirements and general education requirements, students must include remaining requirements as part of the general electives

• Complete 25 credits of any 100-level or higher electives 25 CR

Advising Notes:

All non-ILS courses are available through UMA or the University of Maine System. If a student elects to take a non-ILS course outside of UMA course selection needs to be approved prior to registration. Course descriptions, syllabi, or statement of learning outcomes of the courses will be necessary for the approval process.
