Minimum 50% of the required courses taken through UMA

Admissions Criteria:

Meet teacher education admission criteria: Accuplacer scores, SAT scores, or prior courses consistent with UMA’s policy for placement into ENG 101 and MAT 100
Complete and submit Intent to Declare Minor or Certificate of Study
Schedule meeting with Coordinator of Teacher Education

Candidacy phase (19 credits)

EDU 380 - Digital Literacy and Technology in Schools 3 CR
EDU 385 - Methods of Teaching Reading and Writing in the Content Areas (6-12) 3 CR
EDU 387 - Teaching the Exceptional Child in the Regular Classroom 3 CR
EDU 395 - Field Experience Seminar 4 CR application required for enrollment
EDU 390W - Secondary Methods of Teaching 3 CR permission needed to enroll

Complete one of the following courses (3):

Additional Requirements:

Praxis II Content Assessment (taken anytime in candidacy phase)
GPA of 2.5 overall and 3.0 in education courses
Complete application for student teaching

Student Teaching phase

EDU 399 - Student Teaching Seminar 3 CR taken concurrently with EDU 490
EDU 490 - Student Teaching 7-12 9 CR application required for enrollment

Additional Certification Requirements:

A Baccalaureate Degree from a Regionally Accredited Institution
At least 24 credit hours in the content area (English, Life Science, Physical Science, Mathematics, Social Studies)
