A communication minor prepares students for effective and appropriate communication skills in a wide array of personal and professional settings. The minor offers students a variety of areas of focus within the broad discipline of communication studies, including interpersonal, group, organizational, or even mass communication. Students can explore where communication intersects with issues like social media, public health, marketing, gender, or debate, among others.

Minor Requirements (18 Credit Hours):

COM 101 - Public Speaking 3 CR
COM 205 - Forms of Social Influence 3 CR
Six credits of any 300-400 level COM course

Advising Notes:

A minimum of 25% of the credits required for a minor needs to be earned at UMA for it to be awarded.
A student may be awarded any minor as long as no more than six credits of the minor can be used to fulfill the requirements of the student’s major or concentration.
