Accounting Certificate

The certificate in accounting addresses the rapidly changing field of accounting both in the private and public sector and provides the flexibility needed to meet the demands of the diverse accounting profession. The certificate will benefit students who need a mechanism for obtaining accounting skills. Certificate holders who currently have a baccalaureate degree in another field will meet the educational knowledge requirements to take professional accounting exams such as the CPA (Certified Public Accounting), CMA (Certified Management Accountant), and CFM (Certified in Financial Management) exams.

UMA Certificate Requirements:


  • Minimum 50% of the required courses taken through UMA
  • Minimum 2.00 G.P.A. in the Certificate

Advising Note:


The Accounting program emphasizes as core parts of its curriculum the usage of data and the usage of spreadsheet software. Certificate students will be expected to have a basis in these areas to complete BUA 300, either by taking BUA 205 as one of the two electives in the certificate and a course in statistics/data science or by demonstrating proficiency otherwise. Students may meet the prerequisites for BUA 300 also through the rest of their undergraduate program.


Students are encouraged to contact their faculty advisor and the Advising Center for academic advising and support services throughout their stay at UMA.
