UMA Certificate Requirements:
- Minimum 50% of the required courses taken through UMA
Admissions Criteria:
- Meet teacher education admission criteria: Accuplacer scores, SAT scores, or prior courses consistent with UMA’s policy for placement into ENG 101 and MAT 100
- Complete and submit Intent to Declare Minor or Certificate of Study
- Schedule meeting with Coordinator of Teacher Education
Certificate Requirements (45-47 Credit Hours):
SEE PROGRAM COMPLETION GUIDES FOR SEQUENCING OF COURSES. Pre-candidacy phase (14-16 credits)
Pre-Candidacy Phase Requirements:
- Complete all pre-candidacy EDU courses with a grade of B- or better
- Complete all core and general education classes
- Grade of C or better in ENG 101
- Grade of C or better in mathematics (MAT 1xx)
- GPA requirement met: 2.5 overall; 2.75 in education courses
- Demonstrate proficiency on all key assessments

- Complete application to candidacy
Candidacy Phase Requirements:
- Complete all candidacy EDU courses with a grade of B- or better
- Demonstrate proficiency on all key assessments

- CHRC approval documentation uploaded to Taskstream®
Candidacy phase (19 credits)
Complete one of the following courses (3):
Additional Requirements:
- GPA of 2.5 overall and 2.75 in education courses
- Complete application for student teaching
Additional Certification Requirements:
- A Baccalaureate Degree from a Regionally Accredited Institution
- At least 24 credit hours in the content area (English, Life Science, Physical Science, Mathematics, Social Studies)
