HTY 307 - History of the Witch

3 CR

From fairy tales to historical tragedy, the lore of witches and witchcraft have long seized the public’s attention.   Using primary accounts from the witch trials, literature such as MacBeth, supernatural poetics of the Romantic era and current publications on the practice of witchcraft, this course will examine how the word “witch,” so often associated with fear and power, has morphed and been reclaimed at several points throughout the last several centuries.

Prerequisite(s): HTY 105  or WGS 101W  or permission of instructor.
