ENG 303 - Hip-Hop America: Culture, Consciousness and Movement3 CR
Hip Hop has shaped American culture for decades and helps to define the essence of what America is. Contested and contradictory, powerful and diverse, beautiful and ugly, Hip Hop gives a voice to the oppressed and a means to mainstream success. Through a variety of texts like rap music and the Broadway musical, Hamilton, as well as contexts like feminism and social justice, we will explore the ways in which Hip Hop shapes and challenges American culture, raising consciousness, and inspiring a variety of movements. (This course is cross listed with AME 303 , MUH 303 and WGS 303 )
